I love celebrating excellent journalism, and today’s award winner is Kimball Bennion, a reporter at the Great Falls Tribune and University of Montana journalism grad.
Bennion placed in the national Hearst Journalism Awards for a story he wrote last spring as part of UM’s excellent Native News Honors Project.
Here’s the announcement from UM:
Kimball Bennion, from Powell, Wyo., took 19th place in the feature writing category of the national Hearst Journalism Awards. He graduated from The University of Montana’s School of Journalism in May.
The award was given to him for his story “Not a Drop to Drink,” written last spring for the Native News Honors Project. His story investigated the misgivings Fort Belknap residents have about water quality on the reservation, even though a new water treatment plant is in operation.
There were 140 students competing in the feature writing competition, which is the first of six competitions throughout the academic year.
Bennion is now a reporter for the Great Falls Tribune.
So congrats! And many happy returns!
