Hurrah for red tape, bears with beer, and Buffalo Post!

Can you believe it’s February already? Yikes!

But alas, it’s true, and here at Missoulian.com we’re looking back on the stats for the month just past and celebrating our successes.

Among them: the top three blogs of the month on Missoulian.com.

Drum roll, please!

Congratulations to BuffaloPost.net, our Native news blog and the most-read blog on Missoulian.com during January. City editor Gwen Florio presides over BuffaloPost, collecting Native news and feature stories from all across Indian Country.

Gwen does incredible work, bringing readers nationwide news of this country’s native peoples. It’s significant and important work, and much appreciated.

Coming in as the No. 2 most-read blog in January was GrizzlyGrowler.com, digital manager Tim Akimoff’s craft beer blog.

Tim’s blog picked up a ton of new readers over the past month, a tribute to the great job he does in reporting and providing commentary on “all things beer.”

And No. 3? City Hall reporter Keila Szpaller’s sassy MissoulaRedTape.com blog. Keila’s got a bunch of devoted readers, many of whom tune in several times a day just to make sure they haven’t been the target of one of her zingers!

I like the way she uses the blog to tell the story behind the stories, to highlight the “extras” that don’t make it into her newspaper columns, to provide extra drill-down material for her print-edition stories, and how much she truly loves covering local government. It’s the most important work a community newspaper can do, and I thank Keila for her hard work and devotion.

And now – wow! – it’s February.
